A 45-YEAR-OLD who joined a Fathers 4 Justice protest in London at the weekend said a ‘new wave’ of frustrated dads had joined the group.
Fraser Chatburn, co-ordinator for F4J in the Midlands, met with other dads outside the office of Burton MP Andrew Griffiths on Saturday morning, before travelling to Wandsworth Prison in London to support an activist who was sentenced to six months in prison for defacing a portrait of the Queen.
Mr Chatburn said: “Sadly, we have had a new band of frustrated dads join the group as the family courts system is still failing fathers, but these dads are energetic and want to bring back the highlights and humour that F4J had in the early days.
“We travelled to London in support of Tim Haries, who has featured in national newspapers. The father of two daughters was told that he could not see his children after caring for them for several years.
“Fatherless Britain is a serious topic. When I first started campaigning with F4J 11 years ago, it was estimated that 100 children each day lost contact with their fathers. Now it is estimated at 200 children each day.
“F4J has done a superb job in highlighting the plights of fathers in the UK and the needs of children to maintain a loving relationship with both parents after separation or divorce, but sadly too many judges, solicitors and social workers are riding the gravy train and ignoring the moral and social consequences of this raging antisocial cancer.
“At the same time the costs for a loving father to take his ex-partner to court has risen, and the delays due to high volumes of family court hearings creates a turmoil of emotion, which brings on depression and sometimes suicide for fathers.”
Mr Chatburn said the Conservative Party would become the main target for Burton’s F4J campaign team.
Mr Haries painted the word ‘help’ on portrait of the Queen in an attempt to get the Royal family to listen to the plight of fathers.
In support of his actions, several members of the F4J team dressed up as the monarch for Saturday’s protest.
